I captured this picture of a mountain lion using a camera trap. The sequence of photos from the camera trap depicts the mountain lion approaching the creek for drinking water and then crossing it. The creek is in the Carmel River Watershed in Carmel Valley, on the Central Coast of California, USA. During the dry season, the local streams were all dried up, except for the main streams, such as the one I documented. The water scarcity in this watershed has been accentuated by over-pumping and more recently, due to climate change.
These are wild turkeys. They were introduced to California in the last century. Although not native, they can be found everywhere in Carmel Valley, USA. I placed a camera trap in this dripping water source to document the animals using it during the dry season when the local streams were all dry. The turkeys came regularly to this location in search of water. The water scarcity in this watershed has been accentuated by over-pumping and more recently, due to climate change.
These are hybrids of wild boars and feral domestic pigs. I set up a camera trap near a human-made water source to capture images of the animals that come to drink from it. During the dry season, the wildlife relies on these water sources as the local streams run dry. Unfortunately, over-pumping and climate change have worsened water scarcity in the Carmel Valley watershed, California, USA. The wild boar population in the region is another wildlife issue. They often venture into populated areas to forage for food in lawns and damage irrigation systems for drinking, causing economic loss and conflicts with locals.
